Homemade Apple Crisp
This apple crisp is a favourite when my relatives come over for Thanksgiving. The kids love going apple picking to get the apples too!

    • 1/2Cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4Cup granulated white sugar
    • 1/4Cup brown sugar
    • 1/2Tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/4Tsp ground nutmeg(optional)
    • 1/8Tsp salt
    • 6Tbsp cold unsalted buttercut into pieces
    • 1/3Cup rolled oats
    • 1/3Cup walnuts/pecanschopped
    • 6Cups Granny Smith applescut into 1 inch chunks
    • 1Cup Blackberries(option)
    • 1/2juiced lemon
    • 1Tsp lemon zest
    • 3Tbsp white granulated sugar
    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place rack in the center of the oven.
    2. Spray a 9 inch deep dish pie plate or an 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking dish with a non-stick cooking spray.
    1. Put the flour, sugars, spices, butter, oats and nuts in a food processor and process until the mixture is crumbly. Make sure there are no large pieces of butter visible.
    2. Set aside while you prepare the filling.
    1. Place the apple chunks in a large bowl, along with the berries (if using) and lemon zest.
    2. Toss with the lemon juice and sugar.
    3. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
    4. Spread the topping evenly over the apples.
    5. Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
    6. Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool for about 30 minutes before serving.
    7. Serve with softly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
